Nimbus 2003

I really wish I had the mind to sum up my last week. The big event, of course, was going to Orlando to the Nimbus 2003 Symposium (also known as the slash-fest). Dude, not even joking, it was all slash. I have the hardest time explaining to people what it is and how it all relates and stuff. I am not a slasher, but am not against it, so I teeter on this fence looking into the slash side and trying to translate it to the people who don’t get it.

Aside from that, I got to meet some wonderful people, like magsby, epicyclical, and ali_wildgoose. Nothing against you girls, but man, you are so intimidating. Talent and worship will make you feel like that about a person, no matter how down to earth they are. I turned into a total fangirl. I wish I could have made a better impression on them. I got to see Maggie’s Classics in person, and I think that I want to buy them as soon as she makes them available online.

I really liked Kompulsive Alley, the HP mall, pretty much. I also loved seeing all the costumes and role playing. It was so cool.

The humidity and heat, though, sucked. The fact that I am still sick from three weeks ago made it worse. There were points at which I had no voice. Best buy: I bought a hand-knit seven foot Ravenclaw scarf. Woo-hoo!

Things I would like to see in future Symposia:
– More panels that discuss things without having to bring shipping or slash to it. It gets pretty old after a while.
– Some official endorsement. I want to see actors, hear their thoughts. Aside from actors, I would like to see anyone directly involved in either the movies or the books. Much along the lines of the wonderful authors they had there, particularly Granger.
– I want to see it in LA.
– I don’t think that we should have to pay extra for the luncheons. They should be made part of the whole price of registration. I mean, these are supposed to be big things, and any convention, gathering, what have you that I have ever been to, those are the big things you want to go to, and they have always been included in the price of registration.

A favorite of the whole weekend of mine: the beds were so comfortable. Mmm… down comforters and down pillows. It felt like heaven.
