Hospitals, Anniversaries, and HBP
I haven’t done a real update in a really long time. Currently, I am trying to get over an annoying bug. I have been unable to talk for about four days now. I have gotten used to it, even if Juan hasn’t. It’s a little relieving not having to talk, but at the same time, it has been quite frustrating getting my point across when people are not fully cooperating.
As many of you know, my mom went into the hospital last week. She hadn’t been feeling well (that’s an understatement) for a few days before they finally convinced her to go to the Emergency Room. They admitted her late on Wednesday and she went in for surgery late on Friday night. She had her gallbladder removed laproscopically. We hadn’t been able to visit her until Friday night (Juan and I) and even then we only saw her for like 5 seconds when she was wheeled away to the OR. It was a little nerve wrecking, but because this is a pretty common procedure, we weren’t wiggin’ out. By that time, I was already getting pretty sick, couldn’t really talk very much, but by Saturday morning it was over.
I had to do a Creature Feature at a library (a one-hour program with a focus on an animal – sharks – with biofacts, story time and a nice clean craft), but I couldn’t do it. How on Earth was I going to be able to do that without a voice?! So I called in and the supervisor sounded super stressed. I mean, she understood that I couldn’t come in, she could hardly hear me, but she also had to figure out what to do now, especially since I later found out that someone else called in sick that day too. But whatever, they all lived, and my guilt only lingered as long as it took me to fall back asleep.
Sunday was our first anniversary. We hadn’t planned anything special because we leave for Vegas this weekend. I can’t believe it’s been a year. They say it’s the hardest, so if it only gets easier from here, hurrah! I love my babe, and I know we are gonna have a great life together. We already do.
So, we went to get my mom some nice sunflowers and visited her in the hospital early that afternoon. When we got there, my dad’s cousin was there, and my mom was chatting with her. I have to say, that this forced vacation did some wonders for her face. She looked nice and relaxed even if she did have a few holes in her abdomen. When I got there, all they could do was make fun of me for not being able to talk. She said it was payback for even thinking of taking revenge on her (I had told my dad Friday night that I had to think of something funny to say to my mom because I wanted her to laugh til it hurt – which wouldn’t be much. When I was 11 my appendix burst and I was in the hospital for a week with a six-inch slice on my lower right side and a tube sticking out of it. My mom, being like she is, would make me laugh, even though it hurt like hell, and she knew it. So I would lay there, with a pillow on my stomach to ease the pain when she’d make me laugh. I wanted to do the same to her – but failed miserably. I guess he told her.). She was supposed to stay for another day, and perhaps even have another procedure done because they didn’t get a stone, but apparently, her bloodwork by that time showed that she was ok, and that she was good to go. So we waited until my dad got there and got everything sorted out for her to go home.
After that, Juan and I went to the mall because I promised him that we would get him his birthday present. I had been bugging him for months about what he wanted. I wanted to get him something that he would enjoy and actually use. I thought about Robosapien which he has expressed interest in for a long time. I thought about a Nintendo DS. A flat-screen monitor. But then he finally said he wanted a PSP. I was so glad he decided and told me because if he wanted a PSP and got a Nintendo DS, he might have been pretty bummed out. So we went to Best Buy – they didn’t have it. Ended up making it to Torrid before we got to an EB Games and he said he wanted to buy me some clothes, and who was I to deny him that? So he bought me a pair of pants, three nice shirts, two pairs of sunglasses and a few pairs of earrings. We don’t do that very often, so that was really nice. After that, we also bought me some new Converse because my other tennis shoes are ugly. So we finally make it to EB Games, and they don’t have the game we want, so they send ut to another EB Games – in the same mall. Finally, I buy him his PSP and get him Midnight Club 3 and Mercury – totally a Juan game. The graphics and sound on this thing are amazing, so right now, whenever he isn’t using it, I am. lol
We got everything early enough to make it to the movies. We ended up watching Mr. and Mrs. Smith which was a pretty good movie. We’ve already seen Batman and War of the Worlds (both excellent movies), and I didn’t feel like watching Fantastic Four.
I am kinda getting my voice back at this point, and hope to be all better by the end of the week, when I can *squee* with the best of ’em at the hp_losangeles midnite release party. It so happens that word got out (actually, it spread kinda like wildfire) about my demise at working so late on Friday night, and I have been told that I can leave at about 9:00 p.m.! I know wristbands get handed out starting at 6:00 pm, but I don’t care. I will be there sooner than I previously thought! And hey, ixchelmala may even be able to score some bands for people that rsvp for the event!
OK, this got really long. See what happens when I write about real life?
