Battlestar Galactica Viewer Guide

Watching Battlestar Galactica has been a great weekly ritual around here and as we venture through the seasons, I want to write down a handy viewing guide for the uninitiated because it can get a bit tricky for anyone who tries to watch in order and doesn’t want to miss anything. If you have yet to watch it, Anita has some great reasons to watch it (hint: you don’t have to be a sci-fi geek to love it).

  1. Start with the four hour mini series. If you have it in HD-DVD format, it is the first two discs. Whatever route you choose to go through, make SURE you get this first. If you Netflix it, it is a separate listing than the normal Season 1.
  2. Continue with Season 1.
  3. Then you get Seasons 2 and 2.5. Exactly why the split, I am not sure but that doesn’t matter. Skip the Pegasus episode at the end of the last disc on Season 2. Instead, watch the extended Pegasus episode that comes on the first disc of Season 2.5.
  4. Before you start Season 3, there are 10 webisodes that were released online. You can catch them on the Sci-fi channel’s website (I could only easily find the first one) if you are in the US or Australia, or you can YouTube them. Better yet, watch them on DVD, which are unhelpingly on the second disc of Season 3. So I rearranged my Netflix queue so that I get both DVDs this week instead of just one.
  5. You may have heard of Battlestar Galactica: Razor. This is a double-length episode that aired in between Seasons 3 and 4 but is set chronologically within Season 2. Apparently it sets some stuff up for Season 4 too, so I am not watching it until I am done with Season 3.

There may be more quirks to note, but that is what I know and remember. Anything else anyone else has noticed while watching the series? And note that I want to keep the comments spoiler free.
