Dios aprieta, pero no ahorca. . .

That is one of my mom’s most frequent sayings. Yesterday when I posted my latest entry, I was completely disillusioned, crushed. I felt like I was going nowhere, and no matter how hard I tried, I wouldn’t find a decent job.

Then I called this recruiter lady who posted a job offer for a laboratory technician somewhere in Irvine. I thought it was far, so I asked Juan what he thought. We both agreed it was far, but at $14/hr (versus my current $0), it was well worth it. I called her and she told me that in fact, it wasn’t in Irvine, but San Juan Capistrano, a heck of a lot farther away than I expected. I would have to take the Amtrak to get there – not worth it. So she then gave me the number for the Culver City office of Aerotek, the agency that she works for. I called them up (around 5:25 pm) and asked for their scientific recruiter. They forwarded me to Jessica who asked me to send my resume last night or today. I polished off my resume and sent it on it’s way ten minutes later. She called about 20 minutes after we had previously called, thanking me for being prompt and told me that just 10 minutes ago, someone called her looking for a lab tech with a marine biology background. (!!!) We talked and I said that I was interested. This lab is in Whittier, which is not that far. She asked me if I could show up today, and I did, thanks to my mom who drove me there to make it before schedule. We talked and they praised my qualifications, and told me that I was the star candidate for the position. That they were going to forward my resume on to the bio guy and prepare me for the company and the interview.

I get home, all excited and giddy and check the messages on the phone. This lady left a message on my machine, saying she found my resume on Careerbuilder.com (first call I ever get from anyone on there). She wants to talk to me about a position in as a lab tech in Whittier, for someone with a marine bio degree. . . .

It’s the same dang job!! You do not know how happy that makes me. I am so exstatic, I really think this is the job that I have been waiting for.
