Last weekend

I had such an awesome weekend. On Friday, Juan and I did our usual movie night, which in fact, we hadn’t done in a few weeks. We saw Anger Management, which was pretty funny (ok – I was cracking up the whole time, but I think that I was in an uber happy mood). Juan didn’t think it was as funny because he put himself in Adam Sandler’s shoes.

Anyway, on Saturday, I took the girls to the swimming pool and watched them bravely jump into some freezing cold water. It was nice and relaxing because I sat at one of the tables under an umbrella just watching them have fun (and turn even browner). Then I came home and got ready to go to av_mags‘ gig, all the while attending customers at our clandestine candy/ice cream ‘store’ (shh- you didn’t read that from me). We were running late, and got there about an hour late, which seemed to be right on time because the guitar player got there about twenty minutes later. I had loads of fun listening to them play, and watching Anthony get crazy on the drums. What a work-out! Dude was sweating from head to toe! My favorite was the first band because they were all rehashed oldies turned modern. I really liked that. The other ones were cool too, and I enjoyed it all very much, although I have to agree with majorxero, the singer for the second band was – um – not that great. The Chusma was invited, but only majorxero, Juan and me ended up showing up.

After the gig, about half the people (including ourselves) went over to the Denny’s in Montebello (classic). We had to ask for a table for 25. Yeah. It was cool, even though we didn’t know most people. We met this boy that is about to graduate from UCSC, so we chatted about that for a while, trying to place each other because we recognized each other’s faces, but not much else.

Sunday was our Volunteer Recognition Nite which was themed as “The Pike – Aquarium Style”. The Pike was this old carnival in Long Beach, so they had all these cute carnival games with ocean themes (like instead of popping balloons with darts, you popped Puffer fish – which really were blown up latex gloves). You’d win little gag trinkets (like erasers, pencils, and puzzles), or AoP money which you then used to buy a prize (which was wrapped up and you didn’t know what it was and could turn out to be a totally bogus piece of trash – or something really cool), or you could buy raffle tickets to some really cool prizes. You just filled out tickets that you bought and then dropped them in the gift bag that had the sign of something you wanted to win, like tickets to theme parks, Catalina get-aways, kayaking, theater tickets, gift baskets, pieces of art, gift certificates to some nice restaurants, and tons more. I hope we won something.

Today, I have been continuing putting together baskets for Mother’s Day. Chusma: comprenle algo a sus mamas, preferiblemente, una canasta bonita de las que estamos haciendo. Estan baratas – believe me. Just gimme a call.
