Great days.

So I went to the AoP today and had a nice time meeting the girls that were hired on at the same time as me. Pretty nice cute girls, two of them with kids (and really young). Jason (or Ops-7), our supervisor is really nice and very approachable which made the whole orientation much nicer. Later on, I took the bus home and decided to give Yair a call to see if he was home so that I could stop by and pick up a couple of movies. He was, and I did. I just kicked back and talked with him for a bit. Jessica then showed up and she had just come over from the optometrist’s. She couldn’t see because they had put drops in her eyes and flashed lights and I don’t know what. Yair then offered to give me a ride the rest of the way home.

So they get here and my mom invites them into the chaos that is our living room so that they could check out the baskets we’re making for mother’s day. Jessica chose a nice one with lotions for Rosa (Yair’s mom). Then they took off and I helped my mom fill out a bunch of Avon orders, all the while going outside to our “tiendita” to sell ice cream and candy to the kids. I am so tired.

Tomorrow I start working at 8:00am to 4:30pm. A full day’s work. I have a feeling that going to the IMAX to see X-Men tomorrow will be a little more challenging than I expected. But heck, if Juan can do it, then so can I. Hell, it’s X-men!

A couple things I forgot to mention yesterday, that I would like to save for posterity are:

1) Yesterday was Senior Citizen Day (which totally conflicts with “el dia del niño”, which in Mexico celebrates the day of children). All the senior citizens got in free. There was even a lounge singer singing some old school (and I mean old school) tunes. Add that to the already there 1,700 kids that were there with their schools, plus the regular visitors… it was a crazy day. It was fun though. I saw so many wonderful people, and I got to talk to and meet some very nice excentric ladies who went with their girlfriends and got all dolled up and wore matching outfits. Some came in big beautiful hats, I even saw a group of ladies that all wore white with purple outfits, with purple hats, and purple feathered boas! Yes, crazy, but so full of life. I loved seeing them there. I also loved teaching them about all the animals there, and being there to witness the first time they ever dared to touch an anemone, or even more exciting – a shark, well, it totally made my day.

2) I got an awesome compliment. When I was leaving my station at the California/Baja Exhibit, Jean (an older lady and veteran volunteer) was coming to relieve me. She was coming over from Shark Lagoon and told me that they were short on presenters and that they were having some difficulty figuring out what they were going to cut short because there were presentations to be made. When they found out that I was the next Education Volunteer scheduled to show up, Claudia (the person in charge of all the presenters) said “Anitza? Oh! She can handle it!”. Jean emphasized that not only was this a nice thing to say to me, coming from anyone, it was coming from Claudia, and that meant it was worth so much more. I got all happy and excited so I ran down to Sharks. I then met up with the presenter that was on her way out and told me a similar story, also emphasizing that getting a compliment from Claudia was high up there. 😀

Dude I am on such a high.
