I love Roxy

Roxy is so cool. Best thing is, she totally digs me too. Roxy is the female sea lion at the AoP. I love playing with her. I go to the tunnel and catch her attention and put my hand up against the exhibit. She goes and looks into my eyes and puts her nose to my hand. Then I swirl my hand and she does circles and tell her what a good girl she is even though she probably can’t hear me through the polymer. Then we start chasing each other. I’ll run from side to side of the ‘tunnel’ and she totally beats me everytime – unless I switch the side I am on. Then she has to go under the tunnel and make a few turns, but she manages to find me anyway.

She is too cool. Later in the afternoon, I was over by the rays (overlooking the seals and sea lions) talking about her to Jerry. She knew I was talking about her. She lazily opened her eyes to look up at me and then rubbed in the fact that she was enjoying the afternoon sun on her back on those lovely rocks while I still had some stuff to do.

I volunteered for husbandry this morning again. Today I worked not only with Steve, but with Ian toom whom Steve was training to replace him over his two weeks off. Ian has turned out to be everybody’s vacation guy at the aquarium, so he know what he’s doing. Well, neither one of us had fed Amber Forest yet, but we knew where it was and what to give them after Steve had told us. So we get up there and perch ourselves over some wet slippery fake rocks and start tossing food. Basically it was just small krill, big krill, nori, and pellets. Oh yeah, and a paper towel. Yup, a paper towel went in dammit. Ian tried to get it with the pole net thingy, but couldn’t. I ran into Steve before Ian did and I told him. He was trying to cover that look of utter concern and “oh-my-f’n-god-why-didn’t-i-just-do-it-myself”, but wasn’t doing it well enough. He ran off and took care of it. I felt bad.

Anyway, other than that, it was cool. The afternoon (in education) was really slow. Jerry and Jean gave me a ride home in their Lexus today and offered to give me ride whenever we leave at the same time from the AoP. After not much convincing, I accepted.

On Saturday, I finally get my first day off in two weeks. Woo-hoo!
