And now for a real update…
Today was such a fabulous day. I was expecting for Ken to come back from his vacation, finally, and I saw him, but not until lunch. Who was a totally unexpected return was Steve! Steve is the bona fide shark man at the aquarium, and he is back. I was so happy to see him. I honestly told him that I had no complaints (on the contrary!) about Micah and Thomas, but that it was sure nice to see him back. He took a much needed leave of absence. If only we could all do that at some point in our lives. *sigh*
Anywho, on Tuesday night, Juan stopped by the Aquarium because we had a special lecturer that night. Dr. Walsh is one of only two people on the planet that have succesfully dove into the Mariana’s Trench and come back to talk about it. The other person, was also in the same vehicle as him, so they went down simultaneously. Listening to him talk about diving history and exploring the depths of the ocean was so facinating. Right there, in front of us, is one of only two men that have ever been able to see with their own two eyes what lies at the very bottom of the ocean. We know more about the moon, about space, than we know about our own planet. I mean, thirty years ago, we thought that every thing that lives on this planet depends on the sun. Everything. Then, they discovered that there is this whole world down there that doesn’t even know the sun exists. This whole world that thrives on chemosynthesis, at tremendous pressures, toxic chemicals, and incredible temperatures. My favorite thing he said the whole night was, when asked if there was any comparison that he could make about going down on that dive, to the astronauts that looked back on the blue marble that is our planet, he said, “We are diving to the edge of creation”. They truly did.
After that, we finished off the night eating some yummy tacos. Mm-hm!
At this point, we don’t know what we are going to do for Alex’s bday. She wanted to go to Knott’s Scary Farm, which would be great, but I am seriously lacking in the money and time dept. Then she suggested we all just go to the Harbor House. At this point, I dunno yet, but I know majorxero would be totally down for that.
Alright, off I go, I may just be able to watch the last Berserk DVD before going to bed.
