Shall I continue?

Let’s see, let me continue on the list of things thatI have been wanting to talk about for a while. . . .

Well, the thing with Juan Magallon, we’ll skip that for a bit and move on to D. Magallon. She found me on one of the HP message boards and decided to send me a line. So the following is the series of e-mails we sent each other: (Dot, Me)

You’ll excuse me for e-mailing you [I usually don’t do this but as you see my name]…. I’m on an HP board and my mouse just happened to go over someone’s sig. Imagine my surprise when I saw fammagallon. So in the ensuing linkage…. my jaw is still down around my keyboard!

Yea, it really is a small world, no? Inhabited by quite a few more Magallón’s than I thought!

Still shaking my head…wow

Yea, I sent that last one off too fast. I just realized you’re in Merrill @ UCSC. My brother went there!!!!!!

OK, this is getting weirder and weirder.

Um, so much for sleep, can’t wait to tell my sisters! [BTW, do you know Ms. Martín… I think she’s in financial aid office. ‘Cause that would be way too much!]

As I reviewed my inbox, I came across this message and practically slapped myself. I can’t believe I didn’t reply to you!

Well, to answer your question about Ms. Martin, no, I don’t think I know her. But yeah, this is my last quarter here at Merrill. My dad is from Guadalajara, so that is the branch that I come from. I think the other “Magallon” branch is from Michoacan, but I am not sure.

Once again, sorry for not replying sooner. You can always IM me at my yahoo address, or on AOL: Obizuth, or even msn:amagallon@hotmail. Anyways, look forward to hearing from you!

Oh, Dad grew up near Guadalajara… in a little rancho called El Majistral, near Ameca. He remembers his father came from the Hacienda [he was quite indigena] and had been a widower when he arrived in El Majistral. I know tons about my mother’s side [she’s a Ruelas] but not much about Dad’s side. He’s the only child left.

Wow, what a small world it is? Can’t wait to tell the sisters now!

Oh! Well, I started on a genealogy seach about my past. Too bad it’s so hard. Can’t find much stuff here in the US. My dad is from San Pedro/Tlaquepaque. My grandpa is still alive and living there. They own a house that was declared a historical landmark because it was one of the first houses built there. I think that now he lives in Tonala with my aunt. My dad is the oldest and so am I, which means I have lots of uncles and cousins. Too bad they’re almost all over there, hardly know them at all.

Let me tell you a little about myself:

I am a 23 year old college student – wait, you already know stuff about me! You visited my homepage! It’s me that doesn’t know anything about you! So do tell!

OK, well, talk to you later!

Whew, the short of it is I’m the youngest of 7. Dad was the second….well, that lived. You know about a brother that went to Merrill [Sociology]. Sisters went to San Jose State [bilingual ed], I did Cal Poly [Agribusiness and Poli Sci].

I don’t know much about the cousins on my dad’s side. Dad was the only one of his siblings to come to the US, and only one of his nieces came. She and her family live in Santa Maria. She’s really the only one we have any contact with on dad’s side. Mom has 10 siblings, 8 with kids so I have [I think] about 67 first-cousins there! We are the only ones up this north. Most of mom’s siblings either live in the LA area or in Mexicali.

As I told you, my grandfather arrived at the rancho and never really spoke of his past. He was a mason and could build beautiful things that stand to this day. But of his family and his past he really never spoke. When I was 4 we drove down there….so you can imagine I don’t remember much.

Vicente and a daughter Cuca, [Magallón of course] is who we visited in Guadalajara.

La Higuera is the hacienda my grandfather came from, his mother was named Nikolasa [I’m consulting the mommy right now] His brothers were Santos and Vicente, sisters Maria and Pachita [who lived in Wasco], Nacha….that’s all she remembers. [I caught her off guard].

Anyway…. one of my sisters is a 4th grade teacher so she’s always bringing me books to read. I read all four HP’s after the 4th one came out last summer. I was hooked! Then a friend told me about Cassie Claire’s fanfic….WOW! While looking for more I found HP message boards. So now I’m an admin over on Harry’s Forums….where I moused over something that said Magallón and I about freaked! See, I only use my screen name on the internet [no one there even knows my last name]. Of course I had to investigate. Too weird!

My sisters hang out with the Martín sisters, one is a teacher in San José the other works at UCSC, which is why I asked if you might know her.

I still can’t get over what a small world it is! Who knew?

Dot

That’s where we left off. I haven’t responded to her. The main reason this is here is that I am on a search for my family. I am getting into this geneology business and I want it to work. By me putting this here, I am documenting this, and hopefully someday, I will be able to return to it and say exactly how Dot is related to me. 🙂
