I received a nice packet from the IRS today. We are being audited for 2006.

God dammit!

Though, truth be told, an audit may be a good thing ’cause there is prolly loads of crap you guys can deduct but don’t since you don’t have PhD’s in tax law craziness.

Internal revenue service, aka the tax man. Being audited is when they take your finances and look at them through a huge magnifying glass to see if you’ve been paying them enough. It’s just a pain in the ass.

My dad just went through an audit about a year ago for the family business. If they find something, anything, let them have it and let them go. Those people are trained to just find ONE little thing and then the boss will be happy. They will not go home until they find something.

Audits are definitely frightening, but you will find that though the process is extremely annoying, the entire thing will end painlessly.

Hang in there. I always worry about getting audited since John is self-employed, and I’m sure every year will be *the* year. Considering your past situation, I don’t think you have anything to worry about.

As Canoodles pointed out, they just couldn’t wait until Juan’s raise started coming in, could they?

I wouldn’t stress so much. I mean, it’s not like you had anything to hide. If they do find something, just accept it, pay it and move on. There’s no sense in dreading the inevitable.

Well, let me put it this way: I am not sure it is an all out audit. But they are telling us that according to their paper work, we owe them almost $10,000 (Juan cashed in on some of his options at stamps). I don’t see how that is possible because from what I recall, we put that in our taxes and paid whatever our tax guy said we owed.

Anyway, Juan is looking at the paperwork right now. He couldn’t concentrate at work so he got out early and came to pick up the paper work from me at my work. Aver que..

Just FYI-
About 8 years ago we got a note saying we owed almost 11,000, but when I went into the office to inquire about it, and showed our W2s, the error was on their side because they didn’t factor in the automatic deductions OR the amount we had deducted from our paychecks. I hope it ends up being something basic like that.
