Aquarium and Movies

I hope you guys had a nice weekend. Mine was pretty boring and I am perfectly ok with that.

I want to pimp the Multimedia section of the Aquarium of the Pacific’s website again. I will do this every few months when I feel there are really cool new additions. This time it is because there is a video that was posted actually almost two months ago about where our animals come from. I found it to be a really great and informative video. We are also sporting a library of short interviews with all of our guest speakers as well as a lecture archive (yes, you can actually see the entire lecture online). I have to admit, some are better than others. We also have an Online Learning Center that is great for research and reports. Oh, and let’s not forget the AquaCasts that you can listen to on our site or subscribe to via iTunes. And don’t forget, like on LJ, comments are love. If you check any of that stuff out and there is a commenting option, we would love to hear your thoughts on it (particularly the blogs). Some of the staff and volunteers have become a little dissapointed with the lack of comments. It has more to do with visions of hundreds of comments in their heads on huge sites, but we don’t have that online community yet. We can’t have the same expectations. Then again, out of everyone here, I am the only one that has created*, maintained, etc  a huge active online community. I know it takes a lot of work and time, especially when you don’t have a ton of money to throw at it.

Anyway, point being, if you have time, please comment. I know that some of you have done so in the past (which totally makes me squee out loud), and some of you have even registered an account there! I really appreciate that!

*I use the term very loosely here since without the rest of you, there would be no community.

Now, on to other things. I finally got to see Grindhouse. We saw Deathproof then Planet Terror because I kept hearing that Deathproof was the weaker of the two. So my expectations were not high for the movie, and it was great that way. It was not at all what I expected. I expected gore gore gore! Instead, we got two stories of girls bonding and Stuntman Mike wanting to kill them with his car. The movie is about character development so we get to spend a lot of time with these girls. The action sequences were great though, especially in the first ‘accident’. OMG the scene from the different camera POVs was awesome (and gruesome)! Stuntman Mike crying like a little girl totally made my day. I really enjoyed it.

As for Planet Terror, I did end up liking it a lot more. It just had a lot more stuff going on so it wasn’t as sleepy as the other one. The “Missing Reel” cracked me up even though there is a part of me that really aches for knowing what we missed. lol The whole premise, the characters, stories, it was all so over the top that I just had to laugh and go along for the ride. I really really liked that one.

ETA: OMG this is made of WIN!
